Heritage & Character Home Painting Edmonton

Glenora. Riverdale. Westmount. Highlands. Edmonton's heritage and character homes require a completely different approach than modern builds — plaster walls, original trim profiles, period detailing, and surfaces that have decades of paint layers beneath them. Sameh has worked on these homes his entire career.
Your estimate is handled directly by Sameh and Pam – no call centre, no pushy sales, just clear information.
01 · Interior Painting Specialist

Heritage Homes Need a Different Kind of Painter

Not every painter understands what they are looking at when they walk into a 1920s Glenora character home. Horsehair plaster walls, original wood trim with 80 years of paint on them, single-pane wood windows, and detailing that took a craftsman weeks to install — these surfaces demand patience, the right products, and a painter who genuinely cares about preserving what makes these homes special. Sameh trained for five years in Paris working on heritage buildings and luxury residences built centuries earlier. He brought that understanding back to Edmonton in 2010 and heritage homes have been a core part of Blue Nile's work ever since.
EUROPEAN HERITAGE EXPERIENCE
5 Years on Paris Heritage Buildings
Sameh worked on heritage buildings in Paris — traditional plaster work, period detailing and precision finishing in buildings centuries old. That experience translates directly to Edmonton's Glenora and Riverdale character homes.
PLASTER WALL EXPERTISE
Original Surfaces Done Right
We understand horsehair plaster, hairline crack repair, and the correct coating systems for heritage surfaces. We never sand aggressively or apply incompatible products that damage original plaster walls.
RESPECTFUL OF THE HOME
Preserving What Makes It Special
Heritage homes have character that modern builds don't. We approach every original trim profile, every original door, every original detail with the same respect the original craftsmen put into building it.

07 · Questions & Answers

Heritage & Character Home Painting FAQ

A few common questions before starting an interior painting project.

Do you have experience with horsehair plaster walls?

Yes. We have extensive experience working with original horsehair plaster walls in Edmonton's heritage homes. We understand how to repair hairline cracks correctly, apply compatible primers and coatings and achieve a smooth finish without damaging the original plaster. We never use aggressive sanding techniques that can destroy plaster surfaces.

Can you paint over original wood trim with 80 years of paint on it?

Yes. This is something we handle regularly in Glenora, Riverdale and Westmount. We assess the existing paint layers, determine whether stripping is required, and build a preparation and finishing plan that gives the trim a clean, crisp result while preserving every original profile. The goal is always to make the trim look its best — not to replace it.

Do you paint heritage home exteriors as well?

Yes. We handle exterior painting for Edmonton heritage homes including wood siding, painted brick systems, original soffits, decorative trim detailing, and period entry doors. We use coating systems specifically compatible with heritage exterior materials — products that protect and perform without damaging original surfaces.

How do you approach colour selection for a heritage home?

Pam understands both period-appropriate heritage palettes and modern colours that work beautifully in older homes. We help you choose colours that respect your home's architecture, look right with the original trim profiles and reflect your personal style — without making a 1930s character home look like a modern spec build.

Do you work in Glenora, Riverdale, Westmount, and Highlands?

Yes. These are some of our most familiar neighbourhoods. We have completed heritage home projects throughout Glenora, Riverdale, Westmount, Highlands, Laurier Heights and other established Edmonton communities with significant heritage housing stock. We understand these homes and we love working in them.

Are you licensed and insured for heritage home work?

Yes. City of Edmonton Licensed (Licence #639657327-001), Fully Insured and WCB Covered. All documentation available immediately. Every project comes with a written workmanship warranty.
