A commercial repaint starts with deciding exactly which surfaces need work. In a showroom or office, that can include perimeter walls, columns, movable display partitions, meeting rooms and staff areas. A clear scope helps the painting contractor plan the preparation and helps the business understand what the estimate covers.
Start with the rooms and surfaces your customers and employees use every day. List the walls, columns and partitions to be painted, then identify doors, trim and ceilings separately. Do not assume every visible surface is included. A marked-up floor plan or a set of labelled photographs can make the conversation much clearer.
For retail spaces, show the contractor which display walls move and which furniture or merchandise needs to remain accessible. In offices, identify workstations, meeting rooms and any areas that need a separate schedule.
If wallpaper is being removed, include the removal and wall preparation in the discussion. The condition of the surface underneath needs to be assessed before the final preparation scope is settled. Where skim coating or repairs are needed, those steps should be written into the estimate. New wallpaper installation should also be identified separately from painting.
Confirm who will move furniture, remove wall-mounted items and clear shelves. Discuss where equipment and materials can be kept, which entrances the crew can use and how each work area will be handed back. If the business needs evening or weekend work, raise that at the estimate stage so availability and the schedule can be confirmed.
A colour name alone does not describe the full job. Record which colour belongs on each wall or feature, along with the agreed paint product and finish. Ask to review samples in the actual space before final approval, especially where showroom lighting and daylight create different impressions.
For the La-Z-Boy South Common interior project, Blue Nile's work included interior perimeter walls, columns and movable partition walls. The scope also included old wallpaper removal, skim coating and painting, plus new wallpaper installation on selected walls. The project photographs show the painted interior within the wider showroom renovation; fixtures, furniture and other trades shown are not part of this painting scope.
Send photographs, the areas you want painted and your preferred schedule. Mention wallpaper, damaged surfaces and access requirements. Blue Nile can then discuss the work with you and prepare a written estimate for the agreed scope.
